Questions people ask

Why do I pick a type before I start?

Because this is not a type test. The 32 statements ask how things are going for you at the moment, and the write-up is addressed to a type you already hold, so it needs that as its starting point. If you are unsure of yours, take the quick type test first and come back with the four letters.

What does it actually measure?

Eight things, each rated from "not like me at all" to "very much like me": resilience, inner strain, how at ease you feel with yourself, self-motivation, optimism, inner fulfillment, trust in love, and how steady your relationships feel. Taken together that is a picture of your energy, your boundaries and your sense of balance right now.

Is this the official MBTI test?

It is not, and it does not report a type at all. The MBTI® assessment is a trademarked instrument from The Myers-Briggs Company, administered by certified practitioners, and it reports preferences rather than how someone is doing. This check-in is free and independent: it takes the four preference pairs as given and asks a separate set of questions about your current state.

Will the result change if I take it again?

Probably, and that is the point. A type is meant to be reasonably stable; energy, strain and balance are not, so a run six weeks from now reads as a comparison rather than a contradiction. Answers given on a bad evening will sit low across all eight, which is worth remembering before treating a low score as a fact about you.
