The Record Keeper

You do what you said you would do, on the day you said you would do it, and you have been doing that for so long that the people around you have stopped noticing it as an achievement. You work from what is actually there rather than what might be, you keep track of the details nobody else keeps track of, and you have a long memory for who does the same. Most institutions run on people like you and almost none of them know it.

The cost is that reliability becomes the whole of how you are known, including to yourself, and you take on far more than you admit. You do not ask for help because asking implies the thing might not get done, which is not a sentence you are comfortable saying. The other weak spot is newer: you settle questions early and then treat the answer as permanent, so a method you adopted years ago outlives the reason it was good. It is worth reopening one of those on purpose every so often, before circumstances reopen it for you.
